Attention! Rant! This is a supermarket rant!

Since Saturday I was the most happy juice drinker in Amman, no Jordan. I don't drink a lot of juice, but once in a while a like a glass of juice - and when I say juice, I mean NOT FROM CONCENTRATE juice.

Cozmo
This is a very quick shot of Cozmo's juice stand - well no this is maybe not even half of the juice stand they have. And all these - except one maybe - are all juice made from concentrate. And not only that but they are so sweet it is unbelievable. I could go to Miles in Mecca Mall and buy fresh squeezed orange juice, but I make that everyday at home so no need... No, I long for M&S fresh juices or from Waitrose...

And then last Saturday I found this:

The reason for my rant. Seriously, they spoiled everything. I was so excited and said to Bobs, look Apple Juice, Not From Concentrate - and he went "am sure it's the same as the others" - but I persevered I bought 1 carton. And guess what? The best apple juice I have had since we moved. 4 days later I go back to Cozmo, and guess what? No more apple juice.

That's the really annoying thing here: it's the same with yogurts, for a couple of months they have had Activia yogurts: mango, peach and apricots... and now we are back to square one with only strawberry and nature. why? They used to have another type of yogurts that Bibs loved, suddenly you can't get them anymore. why? Looking for creme fraiche: you can get it once in a while. and i could go on and on. sigh!

and sigh! so next time (if there is a next time) that they have my apple juice, i'll buy all of them!!

Yep, there is not continuous supply of anything over here, especially if you're looking for a specific imported product.

Oh, and Activia peach tasted much better than strawberry! Why did it disappear? :(

Babs, it all depends on what is in the process of being shipped. We can go months without a bag of chocolate chips, Betty Crocker double chocolate cake mix, or cheerios. When it comes in (and eventually it does), we buy and hoard...then share with friends in need. :)

Mostly, I have learned to do without, and consider things like that a treat for every once in awhile.

I was a birthday party and a met a fellow expat and she said the same thing, she finds something she really likes and when she goes back the product is gone. Maybe I think its the other expats finding it and buying it all, and if it's anything like here it takes a while to get more of it (import taxes are high). So I sympathize with you..maybe ask your expat friends if they have any and would like to share?

I know guys, but you see I was so happy :) I do bulk buy stuff - but this one I wanted to try it first!!! and yesterday I was going to stock up :) @ kinziblogs: you don't have any in stock do you ?? :D

Babs, I share your frustration! And even after a year of living here I am still making the mistake of not stocking up as soon as I see something I like (mainly because I use cash here rather than my credit card). Yesterday I went to Beit Al Bawadi to buy more of their gorgeous Morrocan style bowls as gifts for friends in Australia, only to find there were none left! If only I had bought more the first time around, I moaned. Will I ever learn?

ClaireO you need to take me around town before you leave!!! I think that next year I'll still moan because I don't learn lol! haha - i haven't been to Cozmo since :) boycott! but I think I really need to go tomorrow though!

@ Elisa, I think you are right - other expats bought them all!! but none of my friends unfortunately lol... i don't know what they do with their stocks here - I think they can't be bothered to take things out... and then when they order they forget a couple of pages! haha thanks for sympathising though :D

Yes, that sounds familiar, it's exactly like that here in Angola. Things just disappear off the shelves for months at a time. I learned early on that if I found something I liked, I bought a TON of it! Which explains why I have 36 cans of Mexican diced tomatoes in my pantry. :)

Am not surprised Scoop to hear you have the same problems :) the worse part is they still haven't had my juice since... :(

Hi Babs, I just arrived in Amman from Canada a month ago.

Starting to find my way around. And now, reading your blog, I think I'll go and stock up on Marmite, a family favorite.

Hey, I'm wondering how to connect with other ex-pats here. Especially so my teenage boys can meet some new friends...

:)

Hello Barbara & welcome to Amman! Defenitely go for the marmite, you never know when it'll disappear lol :)
Expats with teenagers... waow good question! They don't have anything social going on at the Embassy? Are you French speaking? I don't know anybody with teenagers... how old are they?
Hope that you have settled in nicely!
